The Water Lawsuit

The Bloomfield Township (BT) water department had poor billing practices and financial controls on the assessment of water and sewer rates for residents. When water rated spiked significantly about 2014, residents asked questions as to why. BT officials did not have a good answer. A law firm that had successfully won a judgement against another community became involved. A class action lawsuit of residents against Bloomfield Township went to court. In 2018, a verdict against the Township was rendered assessing $9M in damages. The case is currently under appeal. In the meantime, Bloomfield Township has added all their legal fees, $850K and growing on to residents bills.
