Fiscal discipline does not apply to Savoie, Keeps or Roncelli

In 2009, the Township made plans to put a 10 year millage on the February 2010 ballot. This millage was needed per the Township to offset declining taxable values on homes as a result of the financial/housing crisis. The decline in home values was reducing the revenue needed to run Township services. Township residents narrowly approved the millage. BUT, something else also happened in 2009.

While the Township was planning this millage, it also bestowed on its elected officials (3) and Department Heads (approx 10)  a new long term care/life insurance benefit. The LTC policy alone provides  a benefit worth $216,000 for each insured employee. This policy is still in effect today ( 10 years later)  costing taxpayers $22,000 a month in premiums. Why would they  give themselves this new benefit while asking you for more millage money and pleading poor? Answer? Because they hope you won’t find out. Because they think they deserve it. Because that’s how business is done at the twp. Fast forward to March 2020. The Township wants you to vote for another 10 year millage. Why? The financial/housing crisis is over; in fact taxable values in Bloomfield Township now exceed $4.1B, the highest in our history making tax revenue flowing into the Township generous; AND they haven’t changed a thing about all their lush benefits. Its just never enough!  VOTE NO on March 10 Millage!
