Leadership and Ethics

Key Issues:

Many of our Township financial issues are a result of poor leadership and poor decision making.  The ethics of our leaders have come into question due to the issuing of non-competitive contracts and key decisions being made without transparency and without board votes.  Key issues include:

  • Non-competitive contracts signed

  • Back room decision making without public meetings or Board Member voting

  • 6 Year Union Contracts negotiated and signed with no budget planning beyond the year signed

Recommendations to improve our  Leadership and Ethics

  • Create and maintain a multi-year Strategic Plan

  • Enforce contracting policies to eliminate non-competitive contracts

  • Enforce the Ethics Codes signed by the Board Members

Create and maintain a multi-year Strategic Plan which provides a clear mission and purpose.

A strategic plan sets the direction and priorities.  It provides the guard rails to simplify decision making at all levels in the Township to drive it closer to the vision.  Bloomfield Township has operated without a strategic plan for many years resulting in suboptimal decisions based on the whims of leaders without accountability. This has led to too many strip malls and big box stores while green space essentially non-existent.

Put and end to nepotism by hiring only qualified candidates for township positions

We deserve qualified candidates to fill positions that we, the taxpayers, pay for.  No more selecting relatives and friends for important positions.
